Recruitment & Hiring, Kanban pipeline
Public application portal

A branded careers page feeding a Kanban hiring pipeline, no more CVs scattered across three inboxes.

AI-assisted CV grading

Automatic scoring on CV, skills, experience, education and culture fit, so screening starts from a ranked list.

Three shortlisting rounds

Structured narrowing with a record of who was cut and why, defensible if anyone asks.

Four interview stages

Structured scorecards against defined criteria at every stage.

Three-level approval

Consolidated sign-off across HR, department head and CEO or MD in one view.

Offer templates

Dynamic placeholders, digital signing and response tracking, no printing, no chasing.

Statutory engine

36+ countries. Deep statutory engines, not config flags.

Rates are effective-dated in the system, so a retrospective payroll run uses the rates in force for that pay period, which is what makes back-pay and corrections computable rather than manual.

PAYE: five bands, 10% to 35%
NSSF: Tier I & II, combined cap 6,480
SHIF: 2.75%, minimum 300
Housing Levy: 1.5% each, floor 24,000
NITA: 50 per employee
HELB: per notice
Reliefs: personal, insurance, mortgage, PWD
P9 & P10: iTax-ready

Filed with KRA by the 9th. Every month, without a reminder.

Security & controls

Payroll data is the most sensitive data you hold.

We treat it that way. Croma Interactive is registered with Kenya's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner under the Data Protection Act, 2019.

Encrypted, always

Data encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based permissions so people see only the records their job requires.

Complete audit trail

Every change to every record, who, what, when, and the value before and after. Exportable for your auditors.

Approval controls

Maker-checker on payroll runs and salary changes. Nobody moves money on their own signature.

The honest comparison

Excel is a brilliant tool. It is a terrible payroll system.

What happens when…
Spreadsheet
CromaHR
A statutory rate changes
Someone has to notice, then rebuild the formula
Already updated before your next run
An employee disputes a deduction
You go looking through tabs
The payslip explains itself, line by line
An auditor asks for the trail
There isn't one
Every change, every user, every date
Someone leaves mid-month
Manual proration and hope
Prorated, with terminal benefits computed
You open in a second country
A second spreadsheet
A second country, same dashboard
The person who built it resigns
A genuine crisis
Nothing happens at all

Questions

The things everyone asks first.

How long does it take to get started?

Most businesses run their first payroll within a week. We import your existing employee data and payroll history at no charge, then run a parallel payroll so you can check our numbers against yours before committing to anything.

What happens when a statutory rate changes?

We update the platform, usually within days of gazettement. Rates are effective-dated, so retrospective runs still use the rates in force for that period. You do nothing, your next payroll is simply correct.

Is our employee data safe?

Croma Interactive is registered with Kenya's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner under the Data Protection Act 2019. Two-factor authentication is mandatory for administrators, with a five-level role hierarchy and row-level data isolation.

Can it handle staff in more than one country?

Yes, 36+ countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Americas and Europe, with pre-configured tax brackets, deductions, reliefs and labour laws. Country can be set company-wide or per employee.

Do you handle casual and contract workers?

Yes, casuals, contractors, part-timers and fixed-term staff, each with the statutory treatment it attracts. Lower earnings limits mean low-income staff are never over-deducted: Kenya's NSSF floor at 9,000 and housing levy floor at 24,000, Uganda's NSSF floor at 235,000, Tanzania's 270,000 threshold and Ghana's minimum SSNIT base of GHS 539.19 are all applied without anyone remembering to.

Does it work with our accounting system?

Payroll journals export by cost centre, department or project in a format your accountant can post directly. If you're on CromaLedger, it posts automatically.

What if we already have a payroll system?

Then the useful question is when it last updated for a statutory change, and who did it. Book a free compliance check and we'll tell you honestly whether switching is worth it. Sometimes it isn't, and we'll say so.

What exactly is CromaHR?

CromaHR is HR and payroll software built for African businesses. It covers hiring, onboarding, time and attendance, leave, payroll, statutory compliance, performance and analytics, all in one platform. You run it yourself, or we can run payroll for you.

Is CromaHR a PEO or outsourcing company?

No, CromaHR is software. Your team uses it to manage HR and payroll. If you would rather not run payroll yourself, we offer a separate managed payroll service on the same platform, but the software itself is not outsourcing.

How customisable is it?

Workflows, approval chains, role-based access levels, email alerts, document templates and company branding are all configurable. Start from a default template and adjust, or build from scratch. Changes take effect immediately and are logged in the audit trail.

Can we go fully paperless?

Yes. Contracts, offer letters, policies and statutory forms are all digital with e-signatures. New starters complete their details online, upload documents themselves, and sign what needs signing before day one. No printing, no filing cabinets.

What currencies and languages does it support?

Payroll runs in KES, UGX, TZS, GHS, NGN, RWF, ZAR and USD. The interface is in English, and payslips can be generated in the local language of each market where one is commonly used in employment documents.

How does billing work?

You are billed monthly on the same date each month, by the employee count processed in that period. Pay by bank transfer, card or mobile money (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, MTN Mobile Money). Annual plans are billed upfront with a two-month discount.

Can we export our data if we leave?

Yes. Employee records, payroll history, leave balances and audit trails export to Excel or CSV at any time. If you decide CromaHR is not for you, we hand back your data in a structured format with no argument and no exit fee.
